Topical Studies

A broad spectrum of subjects will be posted with Biblical discussion. They will be my opinions and can be ignored or embraced.

"A New Identity" 2 Corinthians 5:17

A New Identity

2 Corinthians 5:17

We live in a day when people identify who they are by the label of their brokenness. Thus, to speak of their brokenness and the need for Christ is seen as an attack on the person rather than as an act of love. I praise God that I am not identified by my brokenness. I am identified by Christ' perfect righteousness. I am justified, sanctified, in my Savior's life. He is my identity. To attack my identity, you have to attack him....

Worship is a Heart Issue: Job 1:20-22

Worship is a Heart Issue

Job 1:20-22

I have watched people struggle with worshipping in church most of my life. I have struggled with it. We don’t like the music. We don’t like the message. We don’t like the preacher. We don’t like someone who is there. We blame the situation that we are in for the lack of worship on our part.  We blame the people we are with for our lack of worship.

my declaration of faithful disobedience

MY DECLARATION OF FAITHFUL DISOBEDIENCE      (this article is copied from the author, I, Pastor Dave, believe that this is an excellent response of the truly godly to a failed government.  We who claim to trust Christ here in America should learn from him. I love that he rejects "fighting for rights" or "political activism")

Why I Am No Longer a Calvinist

I have long wanted to write about why I left Calvinism. This is difficult to write because I wanted to answer every question that I could imagine a Calvinist would ask; and they have lots of questions, that they often don’t really want to have answered. Their questions are often condescending and intended to condemn (put down) those who aren’t Calvinist. When I was a Calvinist that was my attitude.

Living your Faith

Living your Faith.

Living your faith in front of your children is something I see many serious Christians try to adhere to.  The problem is that they don’t even know what that means.  It is not being moral, religious, passionate for holiness, passionate to be separate from the world (the one that is outside the home, forgetting that the world is in our hearts), or even passionate to be theologically and Biblically correct.

Proverbs 31 woman explained

I am sharing this article from a FaceBook post. I really like it and hope you do too. This is shared with permission.

"My husband had the jeweler engrave 'Proverbs 31:10-31' on my ring. Because that's how he sees me... as the Proverbs 31 woman. ..Right?

But I was thinking one day about that... and I realized that the Proverbs 31 woman does not exist in a vacuum... she has a husband. A Proverbs 31 husband.

What does that look like?

Unity is Not Agreement

On church unity:   Just recently we had a vote at church that was pretty divided.  It was only about 60 % approved.  I was very pleased with the unity displayed.  That may sound strange, but it is not because unity is not agreement.  It is a willingness to work together in God given disagreement.  There could have been no unity if people had not been listening to the Lord.  It is also possible that the majority were the ones not listening to the Lord; but I do not think that is the case because there was no lording it over those who were in the minority.

Loving People or Protecting Self

Stepping back from difficult people does not transform you. It protects you. Learning to love people the way that God calls us to seems to be so very impossible, especially when they are difficult.  God wants to transform us from being fearful of being hurt, or fearful of doing the wrong thing, or fearful of being rejected and hurt again. He does this by telling us to proactively love difficult people. This does not mean "fixing" them. It means "loving" them.

Those That God Would Use Must First Suffer

Those That God Would Use Must First Suffer.

Those that God would use must first suffer. There are no exceptions. But you are not ready to be truly used until you can thank God for the suffering and Focus on Him and His goodness, rather than on the suffering. The suffering is not a god to worshipped. It is a tool to be used to worship and glorify God.
